CQC rates Bluebird Care Westminster’s ‘care’ “Outstanding”
Westminster-based Bluebird Care’s recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection resulted in it achieving an “Outstanding” rating for the caring category of the report – for championing services for local people living with dementia.
The provider, which covers the Barbican area, is believed to be the only homecare organisation in Westminster to have achieved the highest rating from the independent regulator for the ‘Is the Service Caring?’ category. All other areas of the inspection were ‘Good’ – giving the organisation an overall ‘Good’ rating.
The CQC report said Bluebird Care “had a lead role in championing and supporting people living with dementia, which also impacted on quality of life for people living with dementia who used the service and in the wider local community”.
The organisation also ensured staff were specially trained in dementia awareness, including recognising the benefits of music, singing, activities and therapeutic touch.
Emma Bewley’s mother – who has dementia – and her increasingly frail father both receive 24-hour care from Bluebird Care. With support, they are able to stay in their home and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She said: “We have found Bluebird Care to be flexible and to respond to our parents’ continually changing care needs, including dementia care. Most of the carers are good, kind, compassionate and integrate well, both with my parents and their wider family and friends. Several of the carers have been exceptional.”
