With the proposed Cultural Hub linking the proposed new Museum of London site in Smithfield, the Barbican Centre and the proposed new state-of-the-art concert hall on the current MoL site being relaunched as the Culture Mile, The City of London is inviting interested parties to participate in a series of consultation pop-up. The text of the Invitation – and the dates – are set out below:
I am writing to share information on some upcoming consultation events taking place over the summer in connection with the Culture Mile. The Culture Mile, stretching from Farringdon to Moorgate is an ambitious plan to bring together and create a major destination for culture and creativity in the heart of the square mile. It will reinforce the strong cultural foundation in the area provided by the partner institutions including the Barbican Centre, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Museum of London and the London Symphony Orchestra.
The City of London wishes to improve the environment and urban setting for the Culture Mile through a programme that delivers better wayfinding and signage, new green spaces, lighting, public information and art installations. The work takes as its starting point a number of previous studies such as the Area Strategy for the Barbican and Golden Lane.
Working closely with Fluid who are delivering the strategy for the Public Realm of the Culture Mile, we would like to invite you to explore the emerging themes with us and to inform the draft strategy, which will be consulted on formally in the Autumn. Fluid has been developing the approach to create a series of connected places, forming a world-renowned destination that relishes its contrasts and places culture and creativity at its heart. We value your feedback and hope to make long-term relationships as the project progresses.
We would like to invite you to come along to one of our pop-up consultation events, please see dates and locations below. The pop up events will help explain the opportunities and aspirations and test the approach.
