The desserts at Sosharu, Jason Atherton’s Japanese restaurant in Turnmill Street near Farringdon Station, have always been a highlight of Chef Alex Craciun’s menu. Many a guest has made a trip to Clerkenwell especially to try his pastel-hued and deliciously creamy matcha mille crepe, or the chocolate & sesame roll, garnished with an ultra-kawaii chocolate teddy bear. So much so, Alex has now created a Japanese-inspired afternoon tea menu, perfect for those with a sweet tooth.
Available Monday-Saturday between 12pm-4pm, afternoon tea at Sosharu begins with a selection of open temaki – moreish tempura nori ‘tacos’ filled with sushi rice and a variety of toppings – and savoury monaka (Japanese wafers), crowned with fresh tuna. Following this, you’ll be treated to an array of exquisite cakes, all incorporating Asian flavours or techniques – such as a pineapple, bergamot & coconut roll with matcha & nori crumb, or a rhubarb, blood orange & warabi mochi tart. Accompanied by your choice of loose-leaf green tea for £28, or a sparkling cocktail for £35, it’s a delicious and unique twist on afternoon tea. |
