Talk in the Barbican Library on April 10th at 12.30.
Susan and her husband Martin travel to India every year, focusing on a small school they support in an impoverished area of Tamil Nadu, South India. The Library Talk is about the school and the village that has grown up around it. The project’s aim is to give very poor children some literacy and numeracy skills to help them to a good start in life. Over time these aims have developed to include the health and economy of the village as well.
So much is heard of India’s growing wealth, but this is the story of the huge numbers of rural people who get left behind. It is told alongside the library exhibition April 3rd to 29th of Susan’s paintings – a travelogue of images from her latest journeys.
Susan will be at the show with her sketchbooks on Saturday 10th April and Saturday 27th from 11am to 12.30 pm for an opportunity to meet visitors.
