If you are looking for new design ideas you could do a lot worse than pop along to this year’s New Designers Exhibition being held in Islington’s Business Design Centre.
It is the UK’s most important event for emerging design and continues to be a highly respected and successful platform for bringing new design talent and commerce together. It is a showcase for new designers – mostly from colleges and university design courses from all across the country. (The editor has a particular interest as a young cousin, Jane Fleming, who recently achieved a degree of fame in her native Scotland by winning a competition to design the artwork for publicising the re-opening of the Borders Railway Line between Edinburgh, Galashiels and Tweedbank – the northern part of the old Waverley Line from Edinburgh to Carlisle which was axed in the Beeching cuts over 40 years ago – is one of the exhibitors. She is with a group from Heriot Watt University and is exhibiting her textile designs. She is one of literally hundreds of young designers whose work is on display.
It looks like British design continues to have a great future with so many talented young designers participating in a spectacular event.
The exhibition is enormous and has to be split into two parts. Part 1 is already under way and Runs until Saturday evening, while part 2 opens on Wednesday and runs for 4 days.
