We recently reported on Michelin-starred Angler’s rooftop terrace launching a picturesque summer bar in collaboration with international award-winning gin producers, Cambridge Distillery.  We have now had a chance to try it out and can report that it is a great cocktail destination with some exceedingly pleasant gin-based cocktails – most welcome for an early evening break in our case.

The Angler Terrace – early evening

The Angler Terrace on the 7th floor of the South Place Hotel, and adjacent to one of the best fish restaurants in London – awarded a Michelin star in its first year – is a quintessentially British terrace decorated to bring what is described as  Cambridge countryside charm to the City of London’s business district, offering refreshing gin cocktails, amongst others,  amidst a haven of overflowing, blooming summer flowers and foliage.

Attractive gin and tonic glass

Serving a limited-edition menu in conjunction with Cambridge Distillery, Angler honours the botanicals of a summer found within the Cambridge meadows. Alongside the signature Cambridge Dry Gin & Tonic served with Fever Tree Indian Tonic and fresh mint, the cocktail list includes innovative serves such as Thyme & Sage Sour made with Cambridge Dry Gin, thyme, sage, lime, Green Chartreuse and egg white (£13), and the Cambridge Collins, a moreish concoction of Cambridge Dry Gin, Kamm & Sons, gingerale, Aperol and blackcurrant (£13.50).  We can testify that the basic Cambridge gin and Fever Tree Tonic (in our case the light version recommended by our waitress as being the best to complement the flavour of the gin) served in special Cambridge Distillery gin glasses, would be hard to match, and the gin and lime gimlet (£13) is an exceptional cocktail,

Angler’s Executive Chef, Gary Foulkes, has curated a limited bespoke menu of nostalgic English bar snacks designed to pair perfectly with the refreshing, gin-based drinks. These include Cuttlefish fritters with chip shop curry sauce and Crispy pork brawn with Gentleman’s relish.

We’d also highly recommend Angler’s Michelin starred restaurant as having a relaxing and attractive  decor, a great ambience and, of course, excellent food.

Angler is at the South Place Hotel,  3 South Place (Halfway beteen Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations), EC2M 2AF
